The synagogue in Tartu (German Dorpat ), a city in Estonia , was built from 1899 to 1902. The synagogue , destroyed in 1944, stood on Turu Street. It was built in the neo-Romanesque style according to plans by the architect Robert Pohlmann (* 1868) from Dorpat.

With the attack on the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941, the entire area of ​​Estonia came under the control of National Socialist Germany. Before the approaching German army, around 75% of Estonia's Jewish population managed to flee to the Soviet Union or Finland . Almost all Jews who remained in Estonia were murdered by the National Socialists by the end of 1941.
