Synagogue (Tomar)
The synagogue in Tomar , a Portuguese city about 100 kilometers northeast of Lisbon , was built in the 15th century. The secular synagogue is located on Rua Dr. Joaquim Jaquinto No. 73, in the old town of Tomar. It has been classified as a Monumento Nacional since 1946 .
After the Jews were expelled from Portugal in 1496, the building was used as a prison, church and warehouse.
Since 1939 there has been a Jewish museum in the synagogue building , which is named after Abraham Zacuto .
