The synagogue in Białogard (German Belgard an der Persante ), a district town in the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship , was built in 1826. The synagogue was located at Jägerstrasse 6, today ul. Kopernika.

History and description

The building consisted of the synagogue and an adjoining apartment for the religion teacher. The school hall was in the synagogue. From the outside, the synagogue was unadorned, only on the side of the park there were three arched windows, which revealed the sacred character of the building. The prayer room was about 15 by 8 meters. There was a gallery for the women . Part of the property was taken away from the Jewish community to build a promenade along the Leitznitz . In 1926 a plaque was dedicated in the synagogue to commemorate the Jewish soldiers who died in the community during the First World War .

The synagogue building survived the November pogroms in 1938 and was sold that same year, as most of the members of the Jewish community left the city. The building served as accommodation for an SA department. After the war, the synagogue building was used as a residential building and was demolished in the late 1980s because it was in disrepair.
