The wooden synagogue in Khodoriv , a city in Lviv Oblast in western Ukraine , was built in the mid-17th century. It was destroyed in World War II.

history

The earliest date given for the construction of the main hall of the synagogue is 1642. The spaces surrounding them have been added over the years. Extensive renovations were also often carried out, which changed the external appearance, for example the exterior of the building was redesigned as a result of an unskillful renovation in 1909/10. During the First World War it was damaged by a fire started by Russian soldiers; the damage has been repaired. During the Second World War it was set on fire and destroyed by the German occupiers in 1941.

architecture

The main hall was almost square with 12.00 × 12.75 m. The height of the walls was 7.30 m; to the top of the vault it was 10.50 m. The roof was gradually receding until the renovation.

The octagonal bimah was near the entrance; During the restorations in 1909–1910, the presumably wooden structure was replaced by a cast one.

The Torah shrine was probably built later than the main hall. It consisted of two different parts that weren't the same age: the shrine itself and a flat frame with sculptures attached to the wall.

painting

Similar to the synagogue in Hwisdez , the building was richly decorated with multi-colored paintings shortly after its construction by Israel, son of Mordechai Liśnicki from Jaryczów. Further restorations of the interior decoration took place in 1895 and 1905 ..
