Monument in memory of the Jewish community of Hürben on the site of the former synagogue

The synagogue in Hürben , a former place that has belonged to the town of Krumbach in the Swabian district of Günzburg in Bavaria since 1902 , was built at Synagogengasse 10 in 1818/19.

history

The Jewish community of Hürben owned a synagogue built in 1675 and expanded in 1710 and 1765 . In 1819, a new synagogue was built according to plans by Johann N. Salzgeber from Buch , which was renovated in 1863 and 1908.

During the pogrom night in November 1938 , SA , SS and Gestapo men in civilian clothes broke into the synagogue on November 11th . They forced Jewish community members to throw their books, Torah scrolls, and Torah jewelry on trucks.

The building initially remained largely undamaged and has now been confiscated by the Gestapo. Since the beginning of the war , the desecrated synagogue was used as a hay store by the Wehrmacht. On August 30, 1940, the synagogue building was sold to the city of Krumbach for 7,000 Reichsmarks . On November 26, 1939, it burned down by arson.

Due to the severe damage, the ruins were demolished on September 30, 1940 by order of the District President of Swabia. In December 1941, the demolition work was finished.

Commemoration

A memorial and reminder place , which was redesigned in 2003, commemorates the former synagogue .
