Synagogue in Szombathely

The synagogue in Szombathely (German Steinamanger ), a Hungarian town in Vas County , was built in 1880/81. The old synagogue from 1832 became the property of the Orthodox community after the split in the Jewish community in 1871 . The non-Orthodox Jewish community therefore had a new and larger synagogue built.

It was built according to plans by the Viennese architect Ludwig Schöne in the Moorish style . The synagogue building has been used as a concert hall since the mid-1970s .

In front of the building there is now a memorial to the Jews from Szombathely who were murdered in World War II.
