Kaschlgasse synagogue
The Kaschlgasse synagogue was a synagogue in the 20th district of Brigittenau in Vienna . It was built from 1931 to 1932 as a “functionalist” building structure on the ground floor and first floor with apartments stacked on top of it and had 600 seats. After the synagogue at Kluckygasse 11, this location was the second largest religious center of the Brigittenau Jews. The main access to the synagogue was via Kaschlgasse 4, but the building complex was also accessible via Raffaelgasse.
The synagogue was devastated as part of the November pogroms in 1938 . After the Nazi regime, the premises were operated as a leisure facility under the name “Kaschlsäle” and the apartments were rented out. Subsequently, for a long time the branch of a German food company was located in the formerly sacred premises. A memorial plaque was put up around 2011 (see picture).
