The synagogue at Lāčplēša iela 39 in Daugavpils , the second largest city in Latvia , was built in 1840. The former synagogue is a protected architectural monument .

With the attack on the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941, the entire territory of Latvia came under the control of National Socialist Germany until July 8, 1941. This began the annihilation of almost all of the local Jewish population.

The synagogue building with high arched windows had space for 220 people attending the service. It is currently used as a shop.
