Synagogue in Marijampolė

The synagogue in Marijampolė , a Lithuanian city about 50 km southwest of Kaunas and about 125 km west of the state capital Vilnius near the border with Poland , was built in 1870. The secular synagogue in the P. Butlerieniens gatve is used as a house for teacher training.

In Marijampolė there were already three synagogues before 1900: the Hakhnasat Orhim , the Beit Midrash and the synagogue building, which is still preserved today and which was extensively renovated in 1985.
