Wattenscheid synagogue

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Wattenscheid synagogue was located on Oststrasse in Wattenscheid . It was built from 1827 to 1829, but not on the street side, as Jewish places of worship were not allowed to be built on the street front at that time.

The synagogue was burned down during the November 1938 pogroms on the morning of November 10th. The outer wall was preserved and was given a new roof. The building served as a warehouse for a bakery until the mid-1980s and was then demolished due to rebuilding.

In 1990 a memorial plaque in Hebrew and German was put up (Im Brauhof 12).
