Synagogue Vulitsa Djarshynskaha 50 (Babruysk)
The synagogue with today's address Wuliza Dzjarschynskaha 50 ( Belarusian Вуліца Дзяржынскага 50 ) in Babrujsk , a Belarusian city in Mahiljouskaya Woblasz , was built in 1900.
In Babrujsk before 1941 the proportion of the Jewish population was between 25 and 30%. With over 30 synagogues , Bobrujsk was an important center of Jewish culture, so it was ironically popularly called the capital of Israel (Stalitsa Yisrael). The majority of the Jewish population was murdered by the German occupiers during the Holocaust . The synagogue was devastated during this time.
