Synchronization right

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The dubbing right , also film production right or work connection right is a copyright right of use and belongs to the ancillary rights to a musical work . It describes the right to combine a musical work with a film as a film score , for example as part of a film, a television program, in a music video or in television advertising. The term comes from the “synchronous” use of the music, that is, the use of the music that fits the images.

Synchronization rights can be a significant source of income for music professionals. As a rule, the film producer acquires the synchronization rights from the music publisher or directly from the composer (and possibly from the songwriter ), less often from a collecting society . In addition, the needs of the producer for synchronization rights neighboring rights of performers (usually the music label ) and the rights to use the editing and duplication catch (usually by the collecting society).

The right to synchronize musical works must be distinguished from the right to synchronize a film .
