System / 32

The System / 32 was a 1975 computer system introduced by IBM for small businesses. Such systems were called medium data technology in Germany . In 1978 the System / 32 outperformed the IBM System / 3 in terms of installations . The low monthly rental cost of $ 1000 promoted market penetration. The / 32 system was discontinued in 1984.

Hardware and software

The computer had 16 KB or 32 KB RAM and a hard disk of 5 MB, 9 MB or 13 MB in size. The microprogram memory had a capacity of 4 KB to 8 KB. The system also had an 8-inch diskette station and a printer.

The main programming language used was RPG . The / 32 system required little computer skills. After a short training session, the operators were able to use the computer.
