System
In ancient verse theory, a system is originally a unit or structural level consisting of several verses or kola . The parts are connected by synaphy , so there is a continuous rhythm. If there is no breakdown in kola, one also speaks of hypermeter . By responding to systems of the same kind, a division into stanzas is created .
Today the term specifically designates such a sequence of verses or kola in Astropha . Systems of this kind can be found in Greek tragedy (there only Anapaestic systems) and in comedy , where Iambic and Trochaic systems are found alongside the Anapaestic systems.
