The Systrafoss ( Eng. Sister case ) is a waterfall in Iceland . It is located near Kirkjubæjarklaustur in the municipality of Skaftárhreppur in the Suðurland region in southern Iceland.
geography
The waterfall is located south of the Systravatn lake on a plateau , from which the small river Fossá cascades down the rocks. At the foot of the waterfall is the Fossasteinn rock. The glacier river Skaftá runs south of the Systrafoss .
Surname
The name of the waterfall as well as the nearby lake (Systravatn) and a rock (Systrastapi) refer to a former nunnery in Kirkjubæjarklaustur .
