The scene Openair is the largest rock music - festival in Western Austria and is held annually at Altenrhein in Lustenau ( Vorarlberg instead). It is organized by the cultural and youth association Szene Lustenau . In addition to internationally known musicians, young regional bands also perform.

history

In 1990, musicians from the Lustenau jazz seminar founded the Szene Lustenau cultural association (later renamed the Kultur- und Jugendverein ) with the aim of creating opportunities for young talents from their environment to perform in public. In the same year, the first open air took place, at that time still one day, with exclusively local bands and almost on a family scale.

Within 10 years the event developed into a three-day festival with international artists and almost 10,000 spectators.

In 2020 the Open Air scene was canceled due to the ban on events that will apply until the end of August 2020.

The Open Air Scene took place in the Wiesenrainpark in Lustenau for 16 years, before moving to the area near the Schmitterbrücke border crossing, which is still used today, in 2006 for reasons of space .

background

Around 450 volunteers are involved in the preparation and implementation of the open air. The total budget for the event is over € 500,000 annually. In 2013, 21,000 spectators were counted, which roughly corresponds to the total population of the municipality of Lustenau.

The organizers pay special attention to the environmental compatibility of the festival. Free trips by bus and train within Vorarlberg, financed by the municipality of Lustenau and the Vorarlberg transport association , encourage the majority of visitors to use public transport. Over 2,500 bicycles will be parked in the free bicycle lounge on the three days of the festival. A separate waste prevention concept has been implemented since 2009, and since 2013 participation in the “Love Your Tent” campaign has been intended to motivate campers to take their tent back with them after the open air has ended.
