Túró-Rudi bar

Túró Rudi , a chocolate bar filled with a quark preparation, is a well-known specialty in Hungary .

“Túró” stands for quark or curd cheese in Hungarian . Not too sweet in taste, the Túró Rudi is available in two sizes, optionally with a coating of dark chocolate (classic) or milk chocolate. In addition to the natural filling, there are other versions with the addition of fruit jam . "Rudi" is in Hungarian, as well as in German, a pet form of the male given name Rudolf , but also a reference to the word rúd , which can be translated here with chopsticks , so this word is about the shape of the product, with "Túró" rather about its content.

The Túró Rudi originally came under the name "Eskimo" as a frozen product made from a mixture of quark, fat and butter from the Soviet Union . In Hungary, the consistency was adjusted so that the bar could easily be kept refrigerated. Today's appearance and taste date from the 1960s. The Túró Rudi is sold in a characteristic packaging with dots. The dots symbolize the name of the Hungarian manufacturer "Pöttyös" (Hungarian: dotted).

"Rudi" was presented at the Anuga (General Food and Beverage Exhibition) in 2005 and was awarded the "Innovation Prize of Anuga Taste 05" there. The name Túró Rudi is protected within the EU, so a legal dispute from the Hungarian side is not excluded. There is also an Austrian variant, but it tastes different than the Hungarian one: the cream cheese filling is sweeter and also available in other flavors (coconut and strawberry).
