Tüfel on the Sühudiumzug

The Tüfel ( devil ) is a figure of the hermit carnival . He leads the Sühudi procession from the morning of Güdelmontags ( Rose Monday on). He wears a black mask with long horns. In his hands he holds a pitchfork , the prongs of which are covered by a piece of turpe (heated peat ) to prevent possible injuries . The Tüfel is dressed in a black overdress and a blacksmith's apron. He is dragging a two to three meter long chain behind him, which he has tied around his stomach. Little is known about the origin of the figure.
