The Tübingen rowing club "Fidelia" 1877/1911 was initially founded in 1877 as the "Gesellschaft Fidelia" for the "purpose of sociable and cozy get-togethers" and converted into a rowing club in 1911 after the Neckar that had just been dammed provided good conditions for this. Shortly afterwards the first boathouse was built at 30 Bismarckstrasse. 1960–1962 the new boathouse was built at its current location at Gartenstrasse 180 and later expanded several times. From 1924 to 1937 and from 1965 to 2005 (with interruptions) the club published the magazine Der Ruderer - Mitteilungen des Tübinger Ruderverein Fidelia 1877/1911 e. V. out.

The efforts to allow visually impaired people to participate in rowing established a long-standing tradition of "blind rowing" in Tübingen, from which the association for the integration of sighted and visually impaired people in sport was founded.
