Tünde is a female given name in the Hungarian-speaking area. It is a new creation by the writer Mihály Vörösmarty . It was invented for the play Csongor és Tünde (1831), which is based on Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream .

The name is an abbreviation of the Hungarian word tündér (' fairy ').

The nickname is Tündi .
