The House of Tütersburg 23 (April 2008)

The Tütersburg 23 residential building on Tütersburg / Eylauer Strasse, which was demolished in 2009, was placed under protection as an architectural monument. It was located in today's Wuppertal district of Oberbarmen in the residential area of Wichlinghausen-Nord .

architecture

The slated half-timbered building from the second half of the 18th century (according to a newspaper report around 1870) was three-storey and was probably composed of two separate parts of the building under a common gable roof .

The house, which is typical of the Bergisch half-timbered construction, was part of the historic center of Wichlinghausen and for this reason, among other things, was recognized as a monument on September 4, 1987 and entered in the list of monuments of the city of Wuppertal.

history

Tütersburg 23 with a burned roof truss (April 2008)

The building was abandoned by its previous owner in early 2004. A new owner was found in a foreclosure sale in the summer of the same year. Shortly afterwards there was a fire in the roof structure , and the building has been in a devastating condition ever since. Rain penetrated the building, which was inadequately protected from the weather. In past storms, parts of the house and the temporary weather protection flew through the street and endangered neighbors and neighboring buildings.

On April 21, 2008, the administration of the city of Wuppertal was requested by the Oberbarmen district representative to contact the owner in order to secure the building as well as a repair.

During a site inspection by a building specialist on behalf of the city of Wuppertal on Friday, January 30, 2009, the current condition of the house became dramatic. The building specialist determined that there was an acute risk of collapse and called the Technical Relief Organization (THW) to secure the house with support beams and tie rods. The work, during which around 40 THW helpers were present at the same time, continued into the early hours of Sunday. Since the THW helpers were replaced by other local associations from the neighboring communities, around 150 men were involved in the action.

The decision in which form the house was to be saved was still pending at the time. According to a newspaper report, the current owner was missing. The costs of the THW operation were calculated in the five-digit range. A spokesman for the city said that the building could not be saved. An application for demolition from the owner had already been submitted, which still had to be examined in detail due to the monument protection.

The house was demolished by the city of Wuppertal in mid-2009.
