TIME Stories is a cooperative exploration game released in 2015 by the authors Peggy Chassenet and Manuel Rozoy by Space Cowboys . It has won several prizes and was nominated for Kennerspiel des Jahres in 2016 .

Theme and equipment

In TIME Stories , the players are part of the TIME Agency and try to remove disorder in the temporal structure. Each player slips into the role of a host to travel back in time in his body and to solve puzzles. To do this, players work their way through a deck of cards depicting various locations and events that players must explore.

The basic game comes with all the parts you need for the TIME Stories system. Each expansion contains its own deck of cards and thus a new case.

In addition to the instructions, the game material consists of:

  • 8 agent figures
  • 1 time marker
  • 1 group marker
  • 1 time captain's die
  • 6 action dice
  • 40 normal / skull shields
  • 7 time shields
  • 7 heart shields
  • 7 special shields
  • 140 resource tokens
  • 30 life points
  • 24 status tokens

Style of play

To prepare for the game, the object cards are sorted out from the deck and placed in the space provided. Then the area card is revealed. Then the remaining deck of cards is placed on the playing field and the base, also consisting of cards, is revealed. In the base, the players receive the briefing for the following mission. In this way they learn their task, the special rules of the respective case and which hosts are available to them.

Then a time captain is appointed who, in the event of a tie, has a higher voting right and has to throw the time captain's die in the event of a change of location. Then the captain moves to the next player. Now the players travel one after the other to the different locations by placing the group marker on the corresponding location on the map and then revealing the corresponding cards.

If the players want to explore the different scenes at the location, this costs them time units. Each player can take one action per unit of time. Possible actions are the change of the scene or the fulfillment of tasks, which are indicated on the scene. If the players want to move to another location, the time captain's roll of the die determines how many time units this will cost the players. This can be between one and three time units. If the time units are used up before the case is resolved, the mission is deemed to have failed and the players must read out the corresponding "mission failed" card. If the players manage to complete the mission, their performance is rated with points, depending on how well the players did.
