Expert game of the year

The Kennerspiel des Jahres has been awarded annually by the Spiel des Jahres association since 2011 and a list of nominations has been published. While the previous price is based on family games and aims to anchor the game as a cultural asset in society and the family as a whole, according to Tom Felber, the Kennerspiel is aimed at “players who have long experience with board games and are looking for more challenges ". Since it is not intended to be an award for expert games , the Kennerspiel Prize differs from the German Games Prize , in which very complex games are often won.

As with the game of the year, a nomination list with three games is published in May of each year, from which the expert game of the year is then selected by the jury in July. This jury corresponds to the jury for the game of the year.
