Village is a board game by Inka and Markus Brand . The game was published in Germany in 2011 by eggertspiele with illustrations by Dennis Lohausen and is distributed by Pegasus Spiele . It was also published in various languages ​​by several other publishers. In 2012 it was one of four games at the German board game championship .

Awards

Game objective

In a medieval village, players have to control the fate of a family. However, the lifespan of the villagers is limited and all activities they do take up time. The aim of the game is to achieve the greatest number of victory points through skillful goods and time management.

Each player receives a separate courtyard map in his own color, on which four first-generation family members live at the beginning and on which a marker shows the elapsed life span. Then a number of so-called influence stones (in four different colors) and black plague stones - variable depending on the number of players - are shuffled face down and distributed on the action spaces of the actual game board.

Lap schedule

The active player then chooses an action space, takes one of the influence stones displayed there from the game board and may then carry out the corresponding action. The influence stones taken are collected on the farm and can be used again in other places; the black plague stones, on the other hand, have no further use and also cost life. The game board contains seven different action areas: How often an action is possible in each round is regulated by the number of influence stones that are displayed on the respective action space.

Action areas

The seven action areas are designed as follows: In the handicraft businesses , goods can be produced by family members or exchanged for influence stones. On the market , the players try to fulfill customer requests by handing in goods and in this way to achieve victory points. The grain harvest provides sacks of grain that are placed on the farm plan. The wedding brings new family members or brings them back to the farm from the game plan. To travel various bonuses can be won; In the council chamber , new advantages (starting player, influence stones, goods tiles) and victory points can be earned in stages; Finally, only victory points can be won in the church (see Mass ). The wishing well allows you to carry out any action, even one that is already "out of print", in exchange for three influence stones of the same color.

Time consumption

“Time” is a decisive factor in Village : The time consumed is recorded on the life time line of your own farm plan and leads to family members of the oldest generation regularly dying. The place where a family member is standing at this point in time determines the place of burial in the village chronicle (which can also yield victory points). If the places in the chronicle for this area are occupied, the burial takes place in the anonymous graves .

End of game round / fair

When there are no more influence stones on the game board, mass is read in the church, where family members can enter the church, rise in the hierarchy there or gain the majority (which yields victory points). At the end of the round, the action spaces are filled with new influence stones.

Playing

The end of the game is heralded when the last place in the village chronicle or the last free anonymous grave is occupied. At the end there is the final scoring, in which there are points for levels achieved in the church and town hall, for travel stages achieved, for customer tokens and gold coins as well as for deceased family members in the village chronicle. The player with the most points wins.

Extensions

Customer extension

In 2012, four additional customer tiles appeared as a supplement to board game magazines in different languages. The mini extension can also be ordered separately. It is now included in some editions of the basic game.

Village Inn

In May 2013, Village Inn was released, an expansion that contains game material for a 5th player as well as an inn (including the option to brew beer).

Village Port

At the beginning of October 2014, the second expansion appeared under the name Village Port . It expands the game to include the theme of seafaring and can be played both without and with Village Inn .

Customer extensions

A special edition for several games was published for the twentieth anniversary of Darmstadtspiele , which also contained another treasure chest for Village Port.

In 2014 a further mini-expansion appeared with four additional customer tiles. Two of these complement the base game, and one each complements the Village Inn and Village Port expansions .

Adaptation

Viktor Schulz, editor of eggertspiele, composed a song for the game "Village", wrote the text and recorded it on YouTube. It is considered the official song for the game .
