Uwe Rosenberg (born March 27, 1970 in Aurich / Ostfriesland ) is a German game designer and mathematician . He is best known for the Bohnanza card game , which is also very successful in other countries such as the Netherlands and the USA. His greatest success as a game designer is winning the German Game Award 2008 with the game Agricola .

Life

Rosenberg began studying the development and mechanisms of games while still at school. During this time he published some postal games , some of which are now offered on the Internet platform www.omido.de. The publication of his most famous game, Bohnanza by Amigo , coincides with his student days. Since completing his statistics studies (topic of the diploma thesis: " Probability distributions in memory ") in Dortmund , he has devoted himself full-time to the development of games.

In the 1990s, Rosenberg learned the game of games by not only inventing games, but also regularly participating in game tournaments. With his team he came in 4th, 5th and 6th place in the German team championship in board game in different years.

In 2000 he founded the small publisher Lookout Games with other authors . Various extensions to Bohnanza were published here, partly in collaboration with Hanno Girke . However, larger projects are still being carried out by other publishers, e.g. B. Amigo, Pegasus and Kosmos .

Rosenberg has made a name for himself primarily through the development of innovative card game mechanisms. Another focus of his work are research-intensive games that deal with bizarre events from the past, and games that deal with women's and men's clichés. Since 2005 he has concentrated on complex business- themed development games: his first, Agricola , was published in October 2007 and was sold around 400,000 times by 2017. The second game in this series was Le Havre in October 2008 . With his third game In front of the gates of Loyang , Rosenberg completed his harvest time trilogy in October 2009. In 2011 he continued the success of Le Havre with the monastery game Ora et Labora . Since 2012 he has been working again with a small publisher, Tierra del Fuego : his debut Terra Mystica won the 2013 German Games Prize.

In 2016 he was again involved in founding a small publishing house: Edition Spielwiese. Here the first work, Cottage Garden , came from his pen. In 2014 he also published the two-person game Arler Erde , which is set in his East Frisian home village Arle , and in 2016 A Festival for Odin .

Rosenberg is married and has a daughter and three sons. He lives and works in Gütersloh . Until the end of 2011 he had a studio in Dortmund .
