geography

The scattered settlements Ostarle, Ostergaste, Dreesche, Komper , Neuis, Beemoor and Südarle belong to Arle, which is essentially a closed clustered village . These districts are connected to one another in a west-east direction by two district roads and in a north-south direction by a district road. The municipal area covers 1228 hectares and is home to around 1100 residents.

history

Set just outside the Geest Arle location was in the 12th century the archbishopric to Bremen imputed provost , but under the name of alder . In contrast to the neighboring Münster area, their provosts were not rich nobles, but reigning clergymen. The St. Bonifatius Church was built from tuff on a high terp at this time .

In the 17th century a castle is mentioned that belonged to the Beninga of Grimersum . However, ownership changed to the Barons von Wedel in 1717 and then to the Innhausen and Knyphausen houses in Lütetsburg . The castle can be seen in the coat of arms, the shield is that of the Beninga at Grimersum .

coat of arms

The old coat of arms of Arle shows a golden tower on a blue sky, which has three windows above a red coat of arms. There is a silver lion in the coat of arms. There is a gold cross on the red roof. Next to this, two golden spur wheels can be seen on the left and right. The coat of arms was adopted by the municipality in 1963. Ulf Korn from Münster made the design.
