history
The original editors of the magazine were the Westphalian Heimatbund and the regional transport association Westphalia . The magazine initially appeared on a monthly basis and was intended to be “a mirror of Westphalian life”. The first editor-in-chief (from October 1951 to May 1975) was the journalist Clemens Herbermann. The main focus was on culture and cultural policy between the Rhine and Weser rivers as well as the tourist attractions of Westphalian cities and landscapes. From the beginning, Westphalian literature had a high priority. The Westfalenspiegel documented and reflected on the Schmallenberg poet controversy, advocated modern Westphalian literature and published early texts by the then controversial Ernst Meister , which led to fierce letters to the editor in the magazine.
