The Ardey-Verlag in Westphalian Münster is a regional publisher of Westphalia-Lippe.

history

The publishing house was founded in Dortmund in April 1951. The name refers to the Ardey Mountains , a popular destination south of Dortmund .

The founders of the publishing house were the social research center at the University of Munster based in Dortmund, the regional transport association of Westphalia, the Westphalian Heimatbund , the Westphalian Administrative Academy eV Munster and, as a printing company, the publishing house of the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung with the Westphalian printing GmbH. The reason for the foundation was the new, jointly published magazine Westfalenspiegel . The other publishing program ranged from scientific publications to works of fiction. The composition of the shareholders changed over the course of time, and the book program was temporarily discontinued in the 1970s. In the meantime the publisher concentrated on the "Westfalenspiegel".

At the beginning of the 1990s, book series and individual publications on Westphalia-Lippe appeared again. Today the publishing house is indirectly a GmbH of the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (LWL) and thus part of the cultural promotion in Westphalia-Lippe.

The publisher is a member of the German Book Trade Association .
