Bohnanza: Das Duell is a card game for two players by the German game designer Uwe Rosenberg , which is an independent two-person game based on his famous Bohnanza game. It was published by Amigo in 2016 andan English version was published by Rio Grande Games a year later.

Gameplay

The basic game principle of Bohnanza: The duel is based on the multi-person game Bohnanza . As with this one, the aim is to grow bean fields with different types of beans and to harvest them with maximum profit. The winner of the game is the player who has earned the most money (thalers) in the end.

The game material is language-neutral and consists of 104 bean cards in eight different types (bean, red bean, black bean, soybean, green bean, broad bean, broad bean and blue bean) with a blue back, 32 bean cards with a yellow back, eight gift cards and two bean field trays.

Game preparation

At the beginning of the game, the bean cards and the bean cards are shuffled separately and placed face down as a draw pile. The eight gift cards are laid out in ascending order between the two stacks. Each player receives a bean field deposit, three bean cards as talers (turned over), five bean cards and three bean cards. The player takes the bean cards in the order in which he draws them and fans them out. The first card received must be at the front.

Game flow

Actions per turn
  • Grow one or two bean cards
  • reveal three bean cards and give one away
  • Grow gifts and bean cards
  • Draw bean cards and bean cards

Starting with the starting player, both players take turns playing. A turn begins with a player laying out the first of his bean cards from hand on a free space of the bean field storage. He can place a bean on an empty space, on a card with the same type of bean or on a card with a bean value that is exactly one level below the new card. If he cannot display his card, he must first harvest a field in order to empty it for cultivation, and for this he receives the coins indicated on the bottom card of the field for the specified number of bean cards on the field, regardless of the bean types in the field Line; The player receives coins by turning over the specified number of coins in the form of bean cards and placing them on his stack of coins as coins. After he has placed the first bean card, he may also play and add the second card. A player can harvest beans at any time, both on his own turn and on the opponent's turn.

After adding one or two bean cards, the player turns over three bean cards from the draw pile. He must now offer the opponent one of the cards or his own (hidden) card as a gift by pushing the corresponding gift card in his direction. If the opponent accepts the gift, he places it across his own bean fields. If the player declines the gift, he must himself offer one of his cards as a gift, which the active player can accept or refuse. Both players may also bluff during the offer by offering a card that is not available to them; if the opponent chooses this card, the player must instead give him a coin from his coin pile. However, a player may never offer a card type that has already been offered once by him or his opponent in the same turn. The gift phase continues until a player accepts a gift.

After the gift has been distributed, both players, beginning with the starting player, add the new bean cards that are now in front of them in any order, one after the other, on their fields. The active player may put a card on the discard pile, all other beans must be grown and if they cannot, they must harvest their own bean fields to clear the fields. At the end of the turn, both players may discard one bonus card and draw a new one for it. The active player ends the turn by drawing two new bean cards in hand and placing them behind his previous hand cards.

A player can redeem the bonus cards at any time if, with a display, he fulfills the order of cards indicated on the bonus card. He puts completed cards on his coin pile and receives the specified number of groschen in the final scoring to his result (100 groschen = 1 taler)

The game ends when the draw pile of bean cards is used up. The players play the current round to the end until the last cards have been added and settle the fields on their bean field trays. The winner is the player who achieves the highest total of coins from bean cultivation, coins on the bean cards and bean groschen.
