In front of the gates of Loyang is a board game by Uwe Rosenberg for one to four players. The German-language edition was published by Hall Games in October 2009. It is set in northern China 2000 years ago. The players are farmers who grow wheat, pumpkins, beets, Chinese cabbage, beans and leeks in their fields. The players trade with their harvest. They buy and sell goods in the village shop and deliver to regular and casual customers. Different helpers are at their side. Success is measured on the path of prosperity. Whoever is furthest ahead wins.
Similarities to other games
At the gates of Loyang was invented in April 2005. Since it sees itself as a direct forerunner of Agricola , a similarity to Rosenberg's successful game cannot be denied. The harvest mechanism in Agricola is a simplification of the harvest mechanism in Loyang . The harvesting mechanism in Loyang, on the other hand, was inspired by the Dutch game Antiquity from 2004 (publisher: Splotter Spellen ).

The Rosenberg series
“Before the gates of Loyang” is the third game in Rosenberg's harvest trilogy in the order of publication. However, it was invented first. As with Agricola and Le Havre , it relies on the multiplication of agricultural products. Before Rosenberg devoted himself exclusively to worker placement and accumulation games from autumn 2005, “Before the gates of Loyang” was the last pure business game he invented for the time being. Since it was only released in 2009, it stands out from the series of his recent publications.
