Game of the Games 2001
Essen Spring 2001

Die neue Entdecker is a board game by Klaus Teuber that appeared in 2001 in the Kosmos games gallery . It was illustrated by Andreas Steiner . The aim of the game is to discover unknown islands and win their resources (useful and culinary plants) for yourself. For this purpose, an attempt is first made to gain superiority on the islands, which can be made more difficult by tariffs on the other players.

The new explorers are reminiscent of a mixture of Carcassonne and the settlers of Catan . The game is suitable for 2–4 players, ages 10 and up, and takes about 90 minutes.

The game is an adaptation of the game " Entdecker " published by Goldsieber in 1996 . In 2004 a simplified version for 1 to 2 players appeared under the title " Oceania ".

The game

Game setup

There is a rectangular game board consisting of four main areas:

  • Undiscovered Area - New islands are discovered here
  • Edge fields - From here the undiscovered area is reached
  • The jungle - scouts discover treasures on seven paths
  • The sea serpent - For islands and treasures discovered, the "discovery points" are counted on the sea serpent

Course of the game

The pawns on the game board

The youngest player starts the move. The player takes his ship and goes on discovery land. If he has discovered land, he can drop a scout on the island, and the turn is over. When a player has fully discovered an island, the discovery points are awarded, this step is called island scoring. When all fields are discovered, i. H. when the undiscovered area is covered with tiles, the game ends.

Victory conditions

The winner of the game is whoever is furthest up the sea serpent with his scoring marker. In the event of a tie, the one with the most gold wins.
