Transporter Classification Database

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The transporter classification database (TCDB) is that of the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology recognized (IUBMB) classification of membrane transport - proteins . The classification system was designed analogously to the EC number system for the classification of enzymes .

The short form of the classification has the form aBcde, with lowercase letters representing numbers. From left to right it is the transporter class, subclass and family as well as subfamily and substrate (area). The classification of orthologues and paralogues takes place under the same number.
