The TC Schützenwiese (abbreviated TCSW) is a tennis club from Winterthur . The club won Swiss championship women in the interclub championships in 1992 and 1994. The club emerged from the tennis department of FC Winterthur .

history

The tennis department of FC Winterthur was founded in 1923/24 . At the beginning this was not on the Schützenwiese, but on an old square on Bahnstrasse from the former tennis club Winterthur and on a square in the Merz-Rietergut (today the former Merz-Rietergut is part of the city park ). In 1927, four tennis courts near the Schützenwiese were put into operation on what is now the Sulzer site . From 1933 an ice rink was operated on the Schützenwiese in winter. In 1936 the clubhouse could be built.

In 1957, in the course of a reorganization of FC Winterthur, it finally broke away from the parent club. The tennis department was now called Tennis Club FC Winterthur and the relationship with FC Winterthur was contractually regulated. In 1961 the company moved to today's tennis courts right next to the soccer fields on the Schützenwiese - called "Untere Schützenwiese". In 1965, a waiting list had to be set up for the first time because of the large number of applications for entry. This was noticed relatively quickly on the sporting side, so in 1967 a women's team was placed in the National League B of the Interclub Championships for the first time . In 1961 a lighting system was put into operation on the square.

At the end of 1973, FC Winterthur terminated the contract with TC FC Winterthur, which meant that there was no longer any connection with the football club. This was underlined in 1975 when the name was changed to today's TC Schützenwiese. In 1987, a decision at the Green Table finally led to the promotion of the NLA to the disadvantage of Beaumont Bern with the same points . The men rose to the National League C for the first time in the same year. In 1990 the future world class player Martina Hingis played for the first time in the second team in the NLB when she was ten. In 1992 Hingis moved to the first team, and it was exactly in this season that the team became Swiss champions for the first time. In 1994 the women became Swiss champions for the second time, while the men disappeared again in the lower part of the first division. In October 1995 the NLA team was withdrawn following the withdrawal of Martina Hingis and the unexpected interclub transfer of Angela Bürgis . However, a year later, the NLB and NLC teams managed to get promoted at the same time, which meant they were back in the top division after only one year of absence. Until at least 2001 they played in the NLA.

In the meantime, in 2015, the men played in the 1st division and the women in the 2nd division.
