The Rot-Weiß Bergisch Gladbach tennis and hockey club is a sports club from Bergisch Gladbach that was founded in June 1926 . Only as a pure tennis club (TC Rot-Weiß Bergisch Gladbach), in 1959, the hockey department joined. 2 tennis halls with 7 courts, 14 clay courts and a large clubhouse with a restaurant belong to the THC. The artificial hockey turf field belongs to the city of Bergisch Gladbach, but THC is the sole tenant because it supported the construction with considerable financial contributions.

history

Founding years

In July 1929, the TC Rot-Weiß Bergisch Gladbach tennis club was founded by ten tennis players. At the beginning they played at the Bergisch Gladbacher Zinkhütte until the TC continued to play on two places thanks to the help of the influential Bergisch Gladbacher family Zanders on Gohrsmühlenweg.

After the war

After the war-related break, they first played table tennis until, in 1950, four tennis courts were built at the indoor pool on Bensberger Straße. The Zanders family had helped again. In 1952 a clubhouse was added. With over 250 members now, the first successes came.

Hockey in Bergisch Gladbach

In 1959 a hockey department followed. The club name was changed to THC Rot-Weiß Bergisch Gladbach .

Relocation to Hebborn

Due to the approaching expansion of Bensberger Straße and the membership increase to 450, the THC had to look for a new home in 1970. In 1975 a facility with ten seats, a hall with seven seats and a new clubhouse was built in the Hebborner Feld at the end of the village with the help of funding from the city and the country. In 1980 another four clay courts were added and the number of members grew to over 1000.

Rise of the hockey department

The rise of the hockey department is closely linked to the inauguration of the artificial turf field in the newly developed Hermann-Löns district. After 20 years of planning and pre-financing, the hockey players finally found a competitive hockey field after playing on the natural grass pitches at the stadium. The adult teams had long gone to the federal performance center in Cologne. Now there were finally real home games again.

On May 4th and 5th, 2005, the artificial turf was inaugurated with two international matches between the German national team and the Swiss team.

After the opening, not only did the number of young people playing hockey in Bergisch Gladbach increase sharply to well over 200, but the men's team's success on the field also came back: in just two years, they made it through from the 1st Association League to the Regional League.

In the 2011/12 indoor season, the team under Marc Boden was promoted to the WHV Regionalliga.

Men's

Thanks to good youth work in recent years, the 1st men's team has been on the way up again for several years. In the indoor season 2005/06 succeeded after two failed attempts after five years, the return from the Oberliga in the Regionalliga West . On the field, the THC also succeeded in the 2005/06 season, the direct rise as a climber from the association league in the Regionalliga West. Unfortunately, due to unfavorable relegation constellations, being the sixth overall went straight down again.

The 2nd men's team of the THC plays in the hall in the 1st association league and on the field in the 2nd association league. The 3rd men's team (only hall) of the THC plays in the 3rd league.
