TN 85

TN 85 is a transport container for highly radioactive waste developed in France . TN stands for Transnucléaire and is now a registered trademark of Cogema Logistics .

The container made of forged steel fits 28 glass canisters, each weighing 400 kilograms. Its advantage is that the waste can be hotter than the CASTOR HAW20 / 28CG developed by GNS in Germany .

During the transport of nuclear waste in November 2008, eleven TN 85 containers with 28 canisters each were transported from La Hague to Gorleben. Due to the higher heat output of the newer glass canisters, new transport containers were required, whereby the corresponding German CASTOR HAW28M could not be approved in time. Therefore, the French version approved by the BfS since May 23, 2007 was used . For the subsequent transport in November 2010, one of the TN 85 was used (in addition to ten CASTOR HAW28M containers).
