history

In 1937 the Czechoslovak company Walter decided to relocate the production of aircraft engines to the Slovak part of the country. In the following years, the profile of the outsourced part of the company changed from maintenance work and the production of machines and devices for the agricultural and food industry to the production of aircraft engines (in World War II for the German Argus Motoren Gesellschaft ) and machine tools. In the years 1951 to 1952 the production of universal lathes began . Since then the company has concentrated on the manufacture of machine tools. Machine tool production has grown since 1962 when its own research and development department for machine tools was established.

From 1963 to 1998 the company operated under the name TOS Trenčín . Until 1989 the company was part of the Czechoslovak mechanical engineering combine Továrne strojárskej techniky and in 1986 employed 4,764 people. With the Velvet Revolution in 1989, TOS Trenčín was spun off from the combine in the same year, but initially remained in state ownership. In 1992 TOS Trenčín was privatized and transformed into a joint stock company. After a change of ownership, it was decided in 1998 to change the name to Trens Trenčín . The company has been trading as Trens SK, as since 2012

In 2020 Trens SK continued to play an important role in the Slovak mechanical engineering sector, but compared to earlier times employed only a fraction of the workforce. The number of employees, which was formerly over 4,700, fell to almost 2,700 shortly after the company was privatized in the 1990s. In the 2019 financial year, only 244 employees generated sales of EUR 12.9 million.
