The TSV Sontheim was a German table tennis club in Heilbronn-Sontheim . He played in the 1st Bundesliga from 1989 to 1997 .

During the time of professional sport, the table tennis department was organizationally and financially separated from the main club TSV 1892 eV Heilbronn-Sontheim . The manager was the teacher Lothar Löchner. Regional companies were won as sponsors.

In 1967 the men's team won the DTTB Cup. In the 1988/89 season the club was champions of the 2nd Bundesliga South (Reiner Brenner, Steffen Krämer, Janos Molnar, Pedro Petz, Harald Greiner, Viktor Vetturelli). However, he failed in the promotion round. He then strengthened himself with Heiko Wirkner and Paul Link and one year later rose to the 1st BL.

Here he was called TSV Heilbronn-Sontheim and from 1991 TSV Maxell-Sontheim (after a product of the main sponsor Harman Germany). After the withdrawal from Maxell in 1995, the club was again called TSV Sontheim . The team was trained by the former Hungarian international Istvan Asztalos and Reimer Blache.

In 1993/94 the men reached the semi-finals of the ETTU Cup , in 1995/96 they reached the final here. The best placement in the 1st Bundesliga was 6th in the 1991/92 and 1993/94 seasons. 1997 was the descent.

The most famous players were Chen Xinhua , Jürgen Rebel , Xu Zengcai and Peter Auwärter .

In January 2001 the TSV Sontheim 1892 eV merged with the TG Heilbronn 1845 eV to form TSG Heilbronn 1845 eV When the club reported its four newcomers too late to the DTTB in the 2001/02 season, it was not allowed to use them. So he finished last without winning a point and left the Bundesliga after the end of the season.
