Total System Services ( TSYS for short ) is a US company in the field of payment services.
history
The company's history is based on a Columbus , Georgia textile factory dating back to 1888. After the factory director learned that his workers had no safe place to keep their wages, he offered to keep the money in a company vault and the Pay interest to employees. This initial idea gave rise to an independent bank, which later became known as Columbus Bank and Trust Company and is still active today as Synovus Financial Corporation . In 1959, the institute was one of the first Georgia state banks to introduce the credit card . Total System Services, Inc. was founded in 1983 through a spin-off of the bank's payment services operations.
Today TSYS offers systems for the execution of credit card payments and supplies software and terminals for on-site or online payments, as well as for mobile payment processing.
In May 2019 it was announced that the payment service provider Global Payments is aiming to take over TSYS. An amount of US $ 21.5 billion was offered for this. The acquisition was completed in September 2019.
