TT99

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

TT99 (Theban Tomb no. 99) is the modern name of the tomb of the treasurer Sennefer (in Sheikh Abd el-Qurna , West Thebes ), who lived under the ancient Egyptian ruler Thutmose III. (around 1483 BC to 1425 BC) officiated (not to be confused with the better-known grave of the mayor of the same name, TT96).

The tomb consists of three parts. There is an open forecourt, the decorated cult chapel and the underground burial rooms in which the mummy of Sennefer and his burial equipment were housed.

The yard was about 10 m wide. From there one could get into the cult chambers of the grave, which were carved into the rock. These consisted of a transverse space, again about 10 m wide, a corridor and a rear transverse space with two pillars. The cult rooms were once richly painted, but today this decoration is badly damaged. The remains of a biography in the first transverse hall and the depiction of the return from Lebanon , where Sennefer apparently sent an expedition to fetch cedar wood , are remarkable.

In the following corridor there are noteworthy remains of the depiction of the grave equipment of Sennefer. In the rear transverse hall is a funeral procession and on the back wall there are pictures of the grave lord and his wife in front of the sacrificial table. There is also a hymn to Osiris in the grave . On the entrance wall of the second transverse hall are the remains of another biography.

The burial chambers, which could be reached via a shaft in the chapel, found themselves robbed. The remains show that the grave was used again in the Third Intermediate Period .

The grave complex has been known since the end of the 19th century. Systematic excavations, however, have only taken place since 1992.
