The Turnverein Werne 03 eV is the largest sports club in Werne, Westphalia, with over 3000 members .

history

The club was founded in 1903 and is thus Werner's oldest sports club. In his early years he was best known for his gymnasts, who were decisive in founding the club.

In the 1930s and 1950s, the gymnastics club distinguished itself through its success in field handball .

Later the water polo players dominated , who even won a German championship title in the local brine in the 1970s. In the 1990s, they made it to the Bundesliga for another year. In the summer of 2005, the club withdrew from the 2nd Bundesliga.

The basketball players last made it into the 1st regional league, which was the 3rd league at the time, in the 2004/05 season. They have been playing in the 2nd regional league since the 2005/06 season.

The volleyball women were promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2010 . Before that, they played in the Regionalliga in 2009/10. In their first regional league guest appearance in 2004/05, they were relegated to the association league within two years, only to be promoted again twice.

Since 2004, the TV also has its own office in downtown Werner.

basketball

The TV Werne Basketball e. V. is an independent association in TV Werne. The men's team played in the 2nd regional league of the West German Basketball Association in the 2009/10 season . In the past few years, he was promoted to the 1st regional league three times, followed each time by athletic or voluntary relegation. The association has been building on a successful youth concept for years. With the championship in the 2009/10 season, participation in the 1st Regionalliga West again follows for the 2010/11 season. After the 2012/13 season, the men's team withdrew from the league. After the women played in the league for years, the 2008/09 season was followed by voluntary relegation to the national league.

Water lovers

The TV Werne Wasserfreunde e. V. are an independent association. This consists of the subdivisions water polo , swimming and triathlon . The water polo players are German record winners in the title fights for " clubs without winter baths " (VoW), which took place until 1972 , in which clubs without an indoor swimming pool in the municipality took part.

At the moment the first team of water polo players consists mainly of older players who have been playing water polo in TVW for a long time. Up until 2005, the team rose and fell several times between the regional and the 2nd Bundesliga.

The swimmers draw attention mainly through local and a few regional successes. The triathlon division was established in the summer of 2007.

Handball

The handball women have been playing in the regional league since 2008, the men were promoted to the regional league in 2012.

volleyball

The volleyball women played in the 2nd Bundesliga in 2010/11 and in the Regionalliga West from 2012 onwards.

badminton

The badminton department of TV Werne was founded in 1980. Since then, the number of members has increased steadily and has now grown to around 130.

In the current 2011/12 season, ten teams are active in different divisions: six senior teams, one youth team, one school team and two mini-teams.
