Map of Elephant Island with Table Bay |
The Table Bay (in the UK Mensa Bay , straddling translated Table Bay ) is a bay on the west coast of Elephant Iceland in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is the largest bay on the island and is located south of Cape Lindsey .
Their name probably goes back to seal hunters who first operated in these waters around 1822. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee decided in 1949 to modify this name in Latin in order to avoid confusion with Table Bay in South Africa.
