history

The first taco cabana restaurant was founded by Felix Stehling in 1978 in San Antonio -Midtown. Stehling decided to open a taco stand there too. Stehling's wife Billie Jo invented the decor for the chain that was forming.

Despite the rapid growth, Stehling initially decided to keep control in the family. His two brothers enlarged the chain with him, but left it again in 1986. In 1987 Richard Cervera became Managing Director of Taco Cabana. In the mid-1990s, Cervera started fast food. Cevera was replaced by Clark. He had 15 years of experience in the food industry and slowed down plans for further expansion. In late 1996, Taco Cabana showed a new type of restaurant in the Dallas Fort Worth Area. It had a rounded front, a clay tile roof and wooden parquet. The design should convey to the customer that they are sitting in an old Mexican hotel. In 2000, Taco Cabana spent nearly $ 30 million to improve the chain's image and increase growth. Clark left the company. Taco Cabana grew and introduced the Mexican grill concept in 2001.

From 2004 to 2005, Taco Cabana added five new restaurants and had 120 branches. During the "Great Recession", Taco Cabana tried to attract customers through better quality and rolled out the new "Cabana Cares" program.
