Tadaoki Ishihara

Tadaoki Ishihara ( Japanese 石 原 忠 興 , Ishihara Tadaoki ; born January 13, 1940 in Kunitachi, west of Tokyo , Japan ) is a contemporary Japanese composer .

He grew up as the son of a Buddhist priest amidst the sounds of Japanese Buddhist music . He completed his studies at the Kunitachi College of Music and graduated in 1966. After his graduation, he studied twelve-tone music and followed an intensive study of classical Japanese instrumental and vocal music. From 1984 to 1986 he completed his studies in the United States of America at Harvard University and the New England Conservatory and was very impressed by George Russell .

He is now a professor at the Kunitachi College of Music , where he teaches orchestration, composition and music theory.
