Board of Democracy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

“Panel of Democracy” was the name of three events organized by the Werkstatt Deutschland e. V. in Berlin in 2004, 2009 and 2010 on the occasion of the election of the German Federal President . There were celebratory meals with a musical supporting program and official toasts in white tents in front of the Brandenburg Gate .

Federal President Horst Köhler , who was the first to be celebrated with 1200 guests on July 3, 2004, was shortly before that as Director of the International Monetary Fund himself a member of the Association's Board of Trustees. For the second time the event took place on the occasion of the re-election of Horst Köhler on July 3, 2009 in Berlin, 1500 citizens took part. The third panel took place on August 20, 2010 with Christian Wulff . 1500 guests were invited. Wulff was "concerned about the rifts between citizens and politicians" in Germany.

In 2017 the association Werkstatt Deutschland e. V. deleted from the register of associations.

criticism

At the 2010 event, a working group protested against the amount of Hartz IV rates and a “boarding of society” with a “table of the have - nots ” taking place in the immediate vicinity . This should point out that ever larger groups of society are dependent on so-called boards .

The publicist Henryk M. Broder criticized the concept of the “table of democracy”: In view of extensive representative-democratic structures, he recognizes in the idea that citizens should express their concerns and concerns in the context of a meal, nothing more than the “feudal behavior” of a national father .
