Turkmen Horse Day

The Day of the Turkmen Horse ( Turkmen Turkmen bedewiniň baýramy ) is one of the most important festivities in Turkmenistan . It takes place annually on the last Sunday in April and is dedicated to the Akhal-Teke horse breed .

Competitions

The climax of the celebrations takes place in the Hippodrome of Ashgabat . The State Committee for Sports and the National Equestrian Center organize horse races there, in which the best Akhal-Teke people compete against each other. In 2016, seven races were held over different distances, including a marathon over 60 kilometers. A jumping competition will also be held as part of the celebrations. The winners of the competitions will be honored by the incumbent President of the country, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov . The end of the celebration is the parade of the winners in new cars that they receive as prizes.

Celebrations and competitions on the occasion of the Turkmen Horse Day are also held in other cities in Turkmenistan.

Conferences

The day is accompanied by conferences and meetings of various associations. In 2016 which took place on the eve of the feast day sixth session of the International Association of Akhal-Teke horse breeding place, and on the Day of Turkmen horse's place in the twenty nations were represented, the eighth International Scientific Conference "Turkmen horse and art of the world horse breeding" with Representatives from 25 countries.
