Ashgabat Hippodrome

The Ashgabat Hippodrome is a horse racing track near the Turkmen capital Ashgabat . The hippodrome meets the latest standards and offers seating for 5000 spectators.

The hippodrome in the capital was the prelude to a series of construction projects in the field of horse racing , which are intended to maintain the Turkmenian horse-breeding tradition. In the following years, similar plants were built in Daşoguz and Mary .

terrain

The hippodrome was built by the Turkish company Etkin and completed in 2011. There are ten stables on the site that offer space for up to 400 horses. A sand track with a length of 1800 meters and a grass track with a length of 2000 meters are available for the races. The surface of the sand racetrack is made of a special sand imported by the British company Martin Collins Enterprise , which specializes in equipping horse racing tracks.

Competitions

The hippodrome was created primarily for competitions of the Akhal-Teke , a Turkmen breed of horses that has a long tradition in the country's culture. Jump competitions and horse races can be held in the stadium. Every weekend there are competitions in the hippodrome, admission is free.

Turkmen Horse Day

The Ashgabat Hippodrome is the center of the Turkmen Horse Day celebrations on the last Sunday of April each year . In the presence of the President, a large number of races take place on this day, in which the best Akhal-Teke prizes are awarded. The celebrations are accompanied by congresses and conferences on horse breeding.

Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games

The Ashgabat Hippodrome was part of the V. Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games that were held in Ashgabat in September 2017. The hippodrome was one of fifteen sports facilities and hosted the horse riding competitions.

Independence celebration

Competitions were also held in the hippodrome on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Turkmen independence in 2016. The fastest Akhal-Teke athletes were chosen over seven different distances.
