Brother Thomasius investigates in the ancient monastery of Himmerod . Several brothers kill each other there, one of whom has only been praying for days. Brother Thomasius must dig deep into the monastery's past to uncover the case. What he finds there on the shelves of the monastery library and what task he has to fulfill frightens him to the core: He is supposed to free the monastery from a curse of the devil .
