The Hōandō of Taiseki-ji

Taiseki-ji ( Japanese 大石 寺 ) is the main temple of the Nichiren Shōshū , a school of Nichiren Buddhism . It is located on Mount Fuji in Fujinomiya , Shizuoka Prefecture . It was founded in 1290 by Nikko , a student of Nichiren . The temple area experienced phases of greatest growth during the Edo period and after the Second World War.

After the exclusion of the Sōka Gakkai by the Nichiren Shōshū, some of the post-war buildings were demolished and partially replaced by buildings of more traditional style. An example of this is the deliberately built in the style of a warehouse, Hōandō, which replaced the Shōhondō as the main hall in 2002 .
