Christophe Coin

Christophe Coin (born January 26, 1958 in Caen ) is a French cellist , gambist and conductor.

Christophe Coin began his training in Caen with Jacques Ripoche. He studied with André Navarra at the Paris Conservatory and in 1974 received his final diploma (1st Prize) in the subject of cello. From 1976 he studied on a scholarship with Nikolaus Harnoncourt in Vienna and completed his training on the viola da gamba with Jordi Savall in Basel.

In the beginning he appeared mainly as a soloist, founded the Mosaïques Ensemble in 1984 and the quartet of the same name in 1987 with Erich Höbarth, Andrea Bischof and Anita Mitterer, with whom he mainly plays music of the Viennese classical music . From 1991 to 2013 he directed the Ensemble Baroque de Limoges , with which he also worked on oratorios and operas.

Christophe Coin teaches baroque cello and viola da gamba at the Paris Conservatory and at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis . In addition to historical performance practice, he regularly organizes international colloquia on the construction and playing techniques of historical instruments and gains knowledge that he incorporates into his music making practice.

Christophe Coin has made around 50 CD recordings with various formations and as a soloist, several of which have been awarded prestigious prizes in the record criticism.
