The Taiwan-Opera ( Chinese 歌仔戲 / 歌仔戏 , Pinyin gēzǐxì , PEH OE jī koa-á-hì ) is the only form of musical drama that originated in Taiwan has and the region of Yilan has emerged. Its earliest form took elements of Zhangzhou folk songs . The elements of the stories are traditionally based on folk tales from the Minnan region. Taiwanese opera later spread to regions where Min Nan is spoken.
